We wanted to design lawspeak not just as a tool but as an intuitive workspace for legal professionals. We spoke with paralegal and associates and solos practitioners to understand their pain points and grouped their feedback into actionable themes.

Lawyers often need to create repetitive contracts like NDAs or service agreements. Instead of starting from scratch, they upload a template or type a brief description.

How LawSpeak helps:

  • AI generates a first draft instantly, highlighting suggested clauses.

  • Lawyers can accept, reject, or edit each clause in a track-changes style panel.

  • The modular dashboard lets them start drafting in one click.

Outcome: What took hours is now done in 20–30 minutes, with full control over the final document.

Explaining Legal Jargon to Clients

Clients frequently ask, “What does this clause actually mean for me?”

How LawSpeak helps:

  • Users highlight a clause and select “Explain This” from the dashboard.

  • LawSpeak provides a plain-language explanation and optional legal context or precedents.

  • Explanations can be copied directly into client emails or memos.

Outcome: Associates save time and improve client communication without rewriting complex legal language manually.

  • Users click “Translate” from the dashboard, upload a document, and instantly see a side-by-side translation view.

  • They can compare original vs. translated clauses line by line to ensure accuracy.

Outcome: Speeds up approvals and ensures version control in team-based legal work and helps keep everything at one place.

What I Took Away

Designing LawSpeak taught me that simplicity isn't about fewer features it's about clarity and control.

Working with legal professionals reminded me that trust is everything, especially when AI is involved. People don’t need a tool that does everything for them, they need a tool that helps them do their job better, without feeling lost or replaced.

The turning point came when I stopped asking, “What can the AI do?” and started asking, “What does the lawyer actually need right now?” That mindset shift helped me move from building features to solving real problem faster drafting, clearer communication, more control over outcomes.

Ultimately, I learned how to serve a complex, high responsibility industry by building trust-first, task-driven, and context-aware solutions. And that’s a skill I’ll carry into every problem space I work in.
